On Thursday morning Karen worked her magic on him and by Thursday afternoon we had to shut him in the kitchen as he was bouncing around the lounge, obviously feeling much better. So we’re keeping him limited to lead walks at the moment but hes back to his usual self otherwise.
It did of course mean we had a bit of a switch about for the canix teams this weekend.
Saturday saw Pip and Blaze make their debut (aka Team SmallDog). I had done a couple of runs with them last week. They don’t have the weight behind them of the bigger dogs but they more than make up for it with their enthusiasm. It was a 5.9km course, different to the course back in April. No major obstacles except for a rocky downhill section, an area of long grass and some narrow paths that made it tricky to overtake. But there major hills (although it was uppy and downy in places) and no hoards of mountain bikers. Pip and Blaze ran well, although Blaze was a little put off at some of the more barky dogs and poor Pip managed to get kicked in the face (accidently) by another runner. Thankfully she wasn’t phased by that. We finished in 30:40.48, in 3rd place.

Sunday I decided to run Blaze and D. I had no idea how D would react to the environment, but we were the last 2-dog female to run so I kept him out the way of the start chaos until it was our turn to go. He took it all in his stride although I did shorten the line when passing the other dogs. We had one issue overtaking someone near the start. I’m not going to go into full details on here but they obviously didn’t want us to overtake so let their line go full (which had been slack) as we passed saying “go on, go on, go on” and so one of their dogs pinged out towards mine as they reached the end of the bungee. I do wish people would be more courteous and less competitive for the dogs sakes. Theres a lady with a greyhound that I really admire who actually stops and turns her dog away from vocal passing dogs as she doesn’t want her dog to be put into the position of having conflict; as a result hes a relaxed and happy dog rather than a worrier. Anyway, we had a slightly slower time of 30:54.33 on Sunday, again ending up 3rd.
