RVA

We had a tiring but enjoyable 3 day show at RVA this weekend. We have 4 dogs fast asleep....and one crazy Deisel doing laps of the lounge, lol.

Both girls did really well bringing home another handful of rosettes between them. Normally I would update class by class, but everything has merged into one already. With both dogs I had a few not so good runs, a few silly mistakes and a few fantastic rounds that makes it all worth it. I was really pleased with Inca. I wasnt sure how she would cope with the environment but she coped just fine.

Friday was our best day. Pip came 2nd in 1+2 graded agility, 4th in 1+2 combined jumping and a nice clear in 1-7 tunnel happy (just 2nd one out of the places). Inca got 10th in 1+2 graded agility, 12th in 1+2 combined jumping.

Saturday Pip won the agility (again!) and got 3rd in 1-3 combined jumping.

Sunday Pip came 3rd in 1-3 combined game for a laugh jumping. They had 2 courses, one green and one red, and you had to take a ball from a bag to decide which you did just before you went in the ring but thankfully both were straight forwrd. Inca finished on a fab note doing a lovely agility round and ended up coming 10th. We also had an attack to the beagle terrorist which I feel needs a mention. It was in the 1-3 jumping class right at the end of the day and the ring had built up quite a crowd. I set her up at the start and told her to wait, walked a couple jumps ahead and released her and she jumped the first two jumps then disappeared nose down on a mission (cue lots of laughing from the crowd). I managed to get her back and carried on and did a tunnel and a few more jumps but then off she went again (again more laughing). This time I realised I was fighting a loosing battle so left her to it and went to stop the timer calling her back as I left. She seems to always do this at RVA, and always in the ring with the biggest amount of spectators watching, lol.

Game for a laugh

Diesel had a few short trips round the showground each day. He again proved that he is the complete opposite of Inca at the same age and wasn't phased at all by all the sounds and goings on (Inca was quite sound sensitive when she was younger). In fact, On Friday the only thing he wasn't too sure of were pushchairs but by Sunday he seemed fine with them. I did find it amusing that he would spook at a pushchair but had no reaction when a procession of huge JCBs roared past, lol.

We took all 5 dogs with us on Sat and Sun as we're trying to get Mishka used to staying the van. Shes never been a good traveller as her previous owner kept her in a van to guard his tools. When we first got her she only had to get in a car and she would start drooling, and 5 mins down the road she would throw up. Of course it didnt help that she then had to have 3 major ops on her legs and for the most part travelling meant either meant either a trip to the vets, or to hydro. Taking her to classes helped, but of course last year she had to have another op so we went backwards again. I really wasnt sure how she would cope with being at a show all day but she was quite relaxed and sat with us for a while by the rings watching some of the agility. Hopefully she can start coming with us more often from now on and she can enjoy coming with us rather than be stuck at home.

Diesel's ears have changed! He looks much more grown up all of a sudden.

Congrats on the placings with Pippa and especially with Inca.

I wish his ears would make up their mind. They've got a mind of their own at the moment; up, down, up, down, one up, one down!

I did like the ears he had that weekend - you're right he did look very grown up all of a sudden.

Well I have to admit I'm a sucker for prick-ears on Border Collies, but not ideal for showing!

Although judging by his good looks, I can't imagine he'll ever do badly in the show ring.
